What Happened the Year You Were Born?

Peace Baby! I celebrated my birthday recently, and during our dinner conversation, we discussed events that happened the year I was born. Of course, I don't remember any of the events since I was just born, but it made me curious enough to come home and do a little research. Here are a few events that happened in 1960:
  • The Soviet Union launches Sputnik 4.
  • Japan signs a security treaty with the U.S.
  • To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is published.
  • The 50-star flag of the United States debuts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
  • The last episode of "The Howdy Doody Show" airs on NBC.
  • Muhammad Ali wins a gold medal at the summer olympics.
  • Elvis Preseley returns from Germany after serving in the Armed Forces for 2 years.
  • Vietnam War: The United States announces that 3,500 American soldiers will be sent to Vietnam.
  • U.S. Senator John F. Kennedy is nominated for President at the Democratic National Convention.
  • U.S. Vice President Richard M. Nixon is nominated for President at the Republican National Convention.
  • Robert F. Kennedy calls Coretta Scott King, wife of Dr. Martin Luther King, and secures his release from jail on a traffic violation in Atlanta, Georgia.
  • The first successful kidney transplant is performed in the United Kingdom.
  • Basketball player Wilt Chamberlain grabs 55 rebounds.
  • Sammy Davis Jr. marries May Britt.

Leave us a comment with the year you were born and an event that took place that year. We love history.

I see you stole another post from my blog! Did your mother teach you how to steal or did you just learn it along the way. You're pathetic, promoting motherly love. You're setting a fine example of what not to do, steal from other people's blogs. Anyone who would follow you is nuts. You should be sitting behind bars, you're a thief.

You have no concept of what it means to be an ethical blogger. I'm going to Twit about you, you common low life.
